I nostri geni sono costituiti da due regioni chiamate esoni e introni e solo le informazioni contenute <u>negli esoni<\/u> vengono utilizzate per la formazione delle proteine. Il termine generale per indicare la combinazione di tutti gli esoni si chiama \u201cesoma\u201d. Il test che esamina solo l\u2019esoma del nostro DNA \u00e8 quindi chiamato WES (Whole Exome Sequencing), mentre il test che esamina l\u2019intero gene \u00e8 chiamato WGS (Whole Genome Sequencing).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Con lo studio WES viene effettuato uno screening delle mutazioni in 20.000 geni codificanti proteine nel nostro DNA e vengono esaminate le mutazioni che possono causare malattie, influire sulla qualit\u00e0 della vita o essere asintomatiche e trasmesse alla generazione successiva. Le mutazioni rilevate, se presenti, vengono combinate con i disturbi del paziente e interpretate per essere utilizzate come strumento diagnostico.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Se viene rilevata una mutazione che pu\u00f2 causare una malattia o influire sulla qualit\u00e0 della vita, dopo il test pu\u00f2 essere richiesto uno studio genealogico. Inoltre, il WES\/WGS, molto utile anche nelle malattie complesse, multigeniche e inspiegabili, pu\u00f2 essere preferito in ostetricia, cardiologia, endocrinologia, reumatologia e neurologia.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>In assenza di reclami, \u00e8 auspicabile che il \u201cvivere sano\u201d indaghi sulle variazioni che non hanno ancora avuto effetto. In questo contesto, mentre si possono ottenere informazioni come la predisposizione al cancro, l\u2019intolleranza al lattosio, il ciclo dell\u2019ossigeno, il metabolismo delle vitamine, del glucosio e dei farmaci vengono studiati geneticamente e contribuiscono a orientare la vita della persona nei campi dello sport e della nutrizione.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Come per tutti i nostri test, dopo gli studi WES e WGS viene fornita una consulenza genetica gratuita.
